Craig Butcher in his Channel 4 feature, “A whole latte love“, portrays 8 baristi from around the world pouring latte art. Amongst them, is doubleshot coffeebar, pouring what Katie Carguilo of Counter Culture Coffee calls ”the fake boobs of coffee, because it’s what’s on the inside that counts.”
And we agree entirely, at doubleshot we’d like to think our coffees come with both the looks and the personality…

Subsequent to reading about the performance enhancing effects of caffeine in the New York Times, the Easter Bunny has indicated that he intends to have a doubleshot coffee before delivering eggs to the children of Plettenberg Bay on Sunday morning.
Per the NYT:
“caffeine increases the power output of muscles by releasing calcium that is stored in the muscle. The effect can enable atheletes to keep going longer or to go faster in the same length of time”
The Easter Bunny has found itself under increasing pressure in Plett as the popular South African seaside town has grown in size over the last few years.

“He is particularly fond of the latte art at doubleshot… and of course, the freshly-made carrot juice!” a spokesperson for the Bunny said.

Being a picturesque little seaside town in the heart of South Africa’s garden route, we had suspected things may pick up a little in Plettenberg Bay over holiday season…
‘
Things started getting a little busy…
Maybe it was false rumours of a free cappu-giveaway… or perhaps we were being mistaken for the national lottery ticket queue (actually around the corner), but some of the lines forming outside doubleshot over ’season’ have been simply unprecedented! We’ve been pulling so many shots, at times it felt our Kees Idrocompressor espresso machine was under more pressure than the global financial system.
‘
Better than the lottery jackpot?
On one of the days following Christmas, a couple who had seen the morning crowds came in a little later and asked what the attraction was. As much of a mystery to us, we replied: “Everything”. They asked for a freshly squeezed juice… smile.

Doubleshot art on early winter’s morning just before opening. Tatum’s “Proteas”, Klaus Oppenheimer’s b&w photography, and a black&white photo by Marty, of a woman going through a Sangoma ritual…very interesting as it is reminiscent of a Leigh Bowery picture, slightly blurred and taken at an angle between an old lady’s leg and her walking stick…
